Glucose vs. Ketones: The Body’s Energy Sources

Glucose: Consuming carbohydrates initiates their breakdown into simpler sugars in our digestive system, with glucose being the most fundamental of these sugars. Once absorbed into the bloodstream, glucose either serves as an immediate energy source or gets stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen for later use. Ketones: When carbohydrate intake significantly decreases, the body seeks an alternative energy source, leading to the utilization of fats. In the absence of glucose, the liver breaks down fats into ketone bodies, which can fuel most cells in the body, including the brain.   4. Lowered Risk of Chronic Diseases: Reducing carbohydrate intake may improve metabolic health markers, such as blood sugar, insulin, and triglyceride levels, potentially diminishing the risk of ailments like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
